Scrappers survive 5-4 win over Jamestown



Mahonng Valley took the series from the Jammers 2-1 with an early rally.

JAMESTOWN, N.Y. — The Mahoning Valley Scrappers took Saturday's rubber match in Jamestown Saturday with a 5-4 win over the Jammers.

The Scrappers took advantage of Jammers starter Kasthiam Linares with two runs in the first inning.

Jansy Infante and Justin Jenkins drove home runs with RBI singles. Mahoning Valley had the bases loaded with one out before Linares got out of it without further damage.

Mahoning Valley led 3-0 in the third when Jamestown scored two runs off Mike Eisenberg on two walks, two wild pitches and a hit batter. The Scrappers clawed back with two runs in the fourth on a 2-run triple by Mark Thompson to take a 5-2 lead.

The Scrappers offense went dormant from that point on as the Jamestown bullpen allowed just three hits over the final five innings. The Jammers scored runs in the fifth and sixth to pull to within 5-4 before Jonathan Holt closed it out in the ninth.

Eisenberg (3-5) allowed three runs in five innings to gain the victory. Garrett Reick allowed one run over three innings. At the plate Thompson and Infante were each 2-4 with 2 RBI. Thompson scored twice.

The Scrappers (30-24) remain two games behind Auburnin the Pinckney Division. They play in Batavia today at 2:05 p.m. Heath Taylor will pitch for the Scrappers.
