Grapefruit League Roundup Sunday's games

Tigers 7, Indians 4

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. — Kenny Rogers, who didn't give up a run in 23 postseason innings for last year's AL champions, yielded two in his first spring outing. The left-hander struggled a bit with his command. He hit one batter with a pitch and walked another while allowing one unearned run in the first inning. He gave up two hits and another run in the second, but avoided more trouble by getting Grady Sizemore to hit into a double play. Indians starter C.C. Sabathia struck out three in two innings, including Magglio Ordonez with an off-speed pitch to end the first. The left-hander gave up two hits and one walk. Craig Monroe had three hits and Neifi Perez two for the Tigers. Detroit got an unearned run off Joe Borowski to make it 2-1 in the third. Ramon Santiago's three-run homer off minor leaguer Chuck Lofgren put the Tigers ahead 4-2 in the fourth. Former Indians right-hander Chad Durbin gave up one hit — a homer to David Dellucci — in two innings and got the win. Tom Mastny yielded only one walk and struck out two over two innings for Cleveland.

Reds 10, Pirates 4

BRADENTON, Fla. — Masumi Kuwata pitched a perfect inning during his first spring training appearance, striking out two of the three Reds he faced. The 38-year-old Kuwata signed a minor league contract with the Pirates after pitching 21 seasons in Japan. He is expected to start the season in Triple-A, but hopes to make it to the majors. He struck out Scott Hatteberg and Brandon Phillips in his perfect third inning. Hatteberg hit a two-run homer off Pirates starter Shawn Chacon to get the Reds rolling. Josh Hamilton had another solid game, going 2-for-3. Hamilton is 8-for-15 in four games for the Reds, who grabbed him in the Rule 5 draft and are giving him a chance to overcome years of cocaine addiction. Reds infielder Jeff Keppinger broke the ring finger on his right hand when he was hit by a pitch in the fifth inning. He's expected to be sidelined for four to six weeks. The Reds broke the game open against Yoslan Herrera with five runs in the fifth. Right-hander Homer Bailey, the Reds' top pick in the June 2004 draft, struggled with his control in his first spring training appearance. He gave up a two-run double to Jose Hernandez, who later scored on a wild pitch. In two innings, Bailey gave up three runs, three hits, a walk and two wild pitches.
