Feller unhurt
in accident

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. — Bob Feller, at 88 the second-oldest living member of baseball's Hall of Fame, was unhurt in a minor car accident at the Cleveland Indians' spring training complex Tuesday.

Nilesh Shah, physician for the Indians' Class A Carolina League farm team at Kinston, N.C., backed his car out of its parking spot and into Feller's vehicle. Feller, who has been at every Indians spring camp since 1936 except for the four years he served in World War II, was driving to his reserved parking spot.

"Well, it was a beautiful, sunny morning until that," Feller said as he examined extensive damage to his car. The headlight, front bumper, side mirror and molding along the right side were damaged.

"Everybody's OK, but going to get this fixed will take some time out of my throwing program, you know," Feller joked.

The right-hander, who retired after the 1956 season with 266 wins, was in the practice area a few minutes later. He spent an half hour tossing pitches to his 15-year-old grandson, Dan.

"He needs to work on his bunting," Feller said.

Former New York Yankees shortstop Phil Rizzuto, 89, is the Hall's oldest living member.
