MVCA presents nine scholarships



Athletes received $250 awards.

YOUNGSTOWN — The Mahoning Valley Coaches Association has awarded $250 scholarships to nine area students.

Sean Baker (Canfield), John Bayuk (Hubbard), Matthew Bjelac (Newton Falls), Erika D'Alesio (Mooney), Tom DeToro (Fitch), Dane Dobson (Springfield), Allison Fuline (Struthers), Steve Tsilimos (Lisbon) and Alexandra Woytek (Mooney).

Baker, son of Kirk and Lisa Baker, played on Canfield's football, basketball and baseball teams, and was a student council member. He will attend Ball State on a football scholarship.

Bayuk, son of Jeff and Maria Bayuk, was a three-year football letterwinner for the Eagles and was named first-team All-TAC and All-Trumbull County. He plans to attend Westminster.

Bjelac, son of Marc and Deborah Bjelac, was a four-year letterwinner in football for the Tigers and was student body president.

D'Alesio, daughter of Donald and Elaine D'Alesio, was a four-year letterwinner in track and also played basketball. She also belonged to the Spanish club and National Honor Society (NHS).

DeToro, a son of Jim and Sue DeToro, lettered in basketball and baseball. The NHS member plans to attend Youngstown State University. Dobson is the son of Terry and Lana Dobson and was a four-year letterwinner in football and baseball.

Fuline, daughter of Joe and Sandy Fuline, was student council president and a NHS member. She plans to attend YSU.

Tsilimos, son of Jim and Carol Tsilimos, played on the football and basketball teams and ran track for the Blue Devils. The NHS member plans to attend the University of Chicago.

Woytek, a regional qualifier in the hurdles the last three years, was also a member of the basketball team. Daughter of Robert and Deborah Woytek, she is a member of the NHS.
