AUSTINTOWN The Austintown Fitch High boys basketball team, unable to convert free throws in the second quarter, managed to tie Massillon Perry, 55-55, with 2:19 remaining in the fourth quarter of their Federal League game Tuesday.
But Perry scored the final nine points of the contest for a 64-55 victory in the Falcons' gymnasium to remain undefeated in the league.
Outscored 19-8 in the second period, Fitch failed to cash in on three one-on-one free throw opportunities, and trailed by 32-23 at intermission.
Jon Stockman, a six-foot junior guard, paced the Falcons (2-7, 0-3 FL) with 22 points. Phil Jones, 6-5 junior post, added 15.
Trey Thomas led the Panthers (6-2, 3-0 FL) with 22 points.

EAST PALESTINE The Bulldogs made nine free throws in the last two minutes of the contest to prevail.
Dan Hanolt sparked East Palestine (4-2) with 23 points, nine of them in the final period, and he pulled down a career-high 23 rebounds. Jake Harvey chipped in with 13 points.
Ethan Russell paced the Beavers (2-6) with 20 points.
East Liverpool 44, Niles 37
EAST LIVERPOOL The Potters, behind 30-27 at the end of the third quarter, outscored the Red Dragons 17-7 in the final period.
Joey Wines poured in 22 points to spark the Potters, while Kaleb Stroud added nine and Tony Metsch eight.
Justin Allen and Sean Cleary led the Red Dragons with 16 and 14 points, respectively.
Girls
Rayen 69, Slippery Rock 56
SLIPPERY ROCK Brittany Taylor had 25 points and Tieara Jones added 19 as Rayen (5-1) won its fifth in a row.
Rayen lost its season opener to Canfield, 67-37, then defeated Harding, Brookfield, Wilson and Ursuline.
Rayen fell behind, 21-18, after one quarter, then took the lead permanently in the second period.
Taylor, a junior, also had seven rebounds and five steals.
Jones collected 12 rebounds and the senior also had four steals, four assists and three blocked shots.
Teammate Jaleesa Beverly, who added 13 points, also managed to grab 11 rebounds and block three shots.
For Slippery Rock (6-5), Jence Rhoads had 12 points, while Emma Walter had six of her team's 21 rebounds.
United 45, Marlington 44
ALLIANCE The Golden Eagles (5-3) outscored the Dukes 4-2 in an extra-period contest for the victory.
Lindsay Firth and Courtney Baker sparked United's balanced scoring attack with 11 and 10 points respectively.
Sharon 47, Sharpville 46
SHARON Behind, 46-45, Brittany Csatlos' basket with 12 seconds remaining lifted state-ranked Sharon to victory.
Sharon (10-0) missed three one-and-one foul attempts before the goal by Csatlos, who finished with 14 points for the state's fifth-ranked AAA girls team.
Csatlos, a senior guard, also had eight rebounds, seven assists and six steals. Cara Dolci's 18 points led the Tigers.
Kasey Gardner's 23 points for Sharpsville led all scorers in the game, while she also grabbed 12 of the Blue Devils' 21 rebounds.
