Curbstoners
BOARDMAN NBA official Joe DeRosa of Lowellville will be the guest speaker at Monday's noon Curbstone Coaches luncheon at the Blue Wolf Banquet Center on Lockwood Boulevard.
Gino Torretta, the 1992 Heisman Trophy winner, will serve as guest speaker at the Curbstone Coaches Hall of Fame Banquet scheduled May 6.
Fifteen persons will be enshrined during ceremonies at Mr. Anthony's Banquet Center: Lou Blaney (auto racing), Tony Buttar (track and field), Jim Cramer (basketball), Clarence Parks Custer (tennis), Joe DeRosa (special award), Michael Dworak (bowling), Donna Lorenzi (bowling), Rob Luklan (special award), Jack Pierson (football), Bill Ruby (football), Bob Stoops (football) and Rob Todor (sports media award).
Additional inductees include Leonard Villers (boxing), Dr. John and Denise DeBartolo York (contribution to sports) and Tom Koczwara (posthumous selection, softball).

Lordstown track
PERRY Members of the Lordstown High indoor track and field team competed at a meet at Perry.
The girls 4x100-meter relay of Jessica Reinke, Ashley Gibbs, Amanda Wickline and Kayla Ellks finished second in 57.7 seconds.
Ellks was also third in the 55 (7.7) and 300 (48.0); Wickline was third in the high jump (4 feet, 6 inches) and Reinke was fourth in the long jump (14-5).
In boys competition, Ryan Pal won the high jump (6-0) and was third in the 55 hurdles (8.3), breaking his own school record.
Pal was also the anchor on the 4x100 relay, which was fifth (52.0).
Also on the relay were Jeremy Ratell, Tykie Theofilos and Ricki Cooke.
Skating Club third
JAMESTOWN, N.Y. The Skating Club of Greater Youngstown finished third out of 17 teams at the Chautauqua Winter Games.
The games are sanctioned by U. S. Figure Skating and hosted by the Jamestown Figure Skating Club.
Youngstown earned eight firsts, nine seconds, 14 thirds, five fourths and nine fifths competing in 48 events.
The 134 points earned by Youngstown awarded the club the third place finish and prize money, marking the sixth year it finished in the top three.
Jamestown (N.Y.) finished first, and Westminster Figure Skating Club of Erie, Pa., was second.
Individual results were:

AUSTINTOWN A founding committee is announcing the formation of the Austintown Fitch High School Athletic Hall of Fame.
There will be a public meeting seeking involvement, input and feedback Feb. 28 at 7 p.m. in the Fitch High cafeteria.

*LOS ANGELES Phil Mickelson looked unbeatable until a 30-inch putt spun around the rim of the cup, giving him the first of three bogeys on the back nine that cost him a cushion, but ultimately not the lead, Saturday in the Nissan Open.
Mickelson got up-and-down for birdie on the par-5 17th and shot 2-under 69 in the steamy sunshine at Riviera, giving him a one-shot lead over Padraig Harrington (70) as he tries to win for the second straight week.
Mickelson was at 13-under 200. He will be in the final group with Harrington and Rich Beem, who made a hole-in-one on the 14th hole that sent him leaping atop the red sports car that he won. Beem, who used a a 7-iron from 179 yards for the ace, shot the best round of the day, a 65 that left him two shots behind.
*LUTZ, Fla. Andy Bean shot a 4-under 67 in cold and windy conditions for a share of the lead with Wayne Levi in the suspended second round of the Champions Tour's Outback Steakhouse Pro-Am.
Levi shot a 69, finishing in near darkness, to match Bean at 4-under 138 on the TPC Tampa Bay. Levi holed a pitching wedge shot from 118 yards for eagle on the par-4 10th his first hole of the day.
*ADELAIDE, Australia American Scott Sterling shot a 6-under 66 for a share of the third-round lead in the Jacob's Creek Open.
