M.V. Thunder, Hitmen to hold tryouts for team
YOUNGSTOWN The Mahoning Valley Thunder arena football team and the Mahoning Valley Hitmen indoor football team have scheduled tryouts on the same day.
The Thunder, members of the arenafootball2 league who will play next spring in the Chevrolet Centre, will conduct their tryouts on Oct. 14 at Valley Sports in Struthers.
The Thunder will begin with linemen, fullbacks and linebackers, with registration from 7-8:30 a.m. and tryouts at 9 a.m. Cost is $55 and those trying out must bring cash.
The Thunder will look at quarterbacks, receivers and defensive backs at 2 p.m., with registration from noon-1:30 p.m.
Kickers will try out at a later date.
Tryouts will be open to the public, with the Thunder collecting $3 per fan to benefit Volney Rogers Football League.

The Hitmen of the fledgling Eastern Indoor Football League will conduct tryouts at their new home, the Thunderdome in Masury. Times are noon-3 p.m.
Owner Jim Terry says he will allow anyone who tries out for the Thunder to try for his team for free if the player produces a receipt.
