Top-ranked Tar Heels too much for Flashes

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Tyler Hansbrough scored 25 points to lead No. 1 North Carolina to a 90-61 rout of Kent State Wednesday night.

Wayne Ellington and Ty Lawson both had 17 points for the Tar Heels (14-0), who never trailed during their final non-conference tuneup before Atlantic Coast Conference play starts Sunday at No. 19 Clemson.

Hansbrough was 11-for-11 at the free-throw line in his seventh straight 20-point game for the Tar Heels.

Haminn Quaintance tied a career high with 20 points and Mike Scott added 13 for Kent State (10-3), which had its seven-game winning streak snapped.

Akron 81, 2 OT

DAYTON — London Warren scored six points in the second overtime, including a big free throw, to lead Dayton over Akron. The Flyers (12-1), who entered the Top 25 for the first time this season Monday, extended their winning streak to 11 games.

Ohio 53, Bucknell 47

LEWISBURG, Pa. — Bert Whittington IV scored 20 points and Jerome Tillman added 11, leading Ohio over Bucknell. Justin Castleberry's 11 points paced Bucknell, which shot 9-for-25 in the second half and 11-for-42 (26 percent) overall.

Duquesne 96, Bowling Green 78

BOWLING GREEN — Reggie Jackson scored 19 points to lead Duquesne over Bowling Green. Jackson was 3-of-3 from behind the 3-point line. Kojo Mensah added 18, while Aaron Jackson and Kieron Achara each contributed 12 for Duquesne (10-3), which has won four straight. Bowling Green (5-7) never held a lead in the game.
