Double-double: Reaching double figures in points and rebounds was a regular occurrence for Ta-Myra Davis in high school. She now has one as a collegian. The freshman from Akron recorded the first double-double of her Youngstown State career with 19 points and 10 rebounds, both career highs, in Wednesday's 77-60 loss at Butler in the quarterfinals of the Horizon League Tournament. A 6-foot-1-inch forward, Davis entered the game averaging 3.3 points and 4 rebounds. "It's not so much focusing on the numbers, but focusing on what I'm giving the team, that's the main concern," Davis said. At Firestone High School, Davis averaged a double-double for three years. She averaged 17 points and 15.5 rebounds as a senior after going for 18.4 and 17.7 as a junior and 16.1 and 17 as a freshman.

Bright future: With no seniors on the roster, fourth-year Youngstown State coach Tisha Hill sees a bright future despite a 7-21 final record. Hill started three sophomores and two juniors on Wednesday, and the Penguins two double-figure scorers for the season were a sophomore (guard Monique Godfrey) and a junior (guard Heather Karner). In addition, they add Kelsey Gurganus, who will have two years of eligibility after sitting out this year following a transfer from Southern Mississippi. A 5-10 guard, Gurganus is from Perry Meridian High School in Indianapolis, the alma mater of WNBA All-Star Katie Douglas. Hill described the future as "bright, very bright. These players know it. We talked about it. They understand it. They're very smart about our league and what our league has. The first and second-team all-conference players in our league, the majority of them are seniors, and I have not a one on our team. And we've got some good talent sitting back at home waiting to become eligible, and we'll bring others in."
