Women's golf
WARREN Junior Brittany Jones is tied for third place while the YSU women's golf Red Team is tied for fourth following the first round of action at Old Avalon Golf Course on Monday at the YSU Fall Invitational.
The second and final round is set to tee off at 10:30 a.m. today. Jones had a 38 on the front nine and a 38 on the back nine to card a 76, tying Siena's Laura Woolgar and Megan Angis for third place. Leading the tournament is Bowling Green's Jessica McCann who had a 73 while Detroit's Mandi Dupuis is in second following a 74.
The Falcons lead the tournament after a first-round 313. Siena is second with a 316, while Detroit is third at 320 and YSU Red and Cleveland State are tied at 323.
Freshman Brittany Stillwagon was the second-highest Penguin carding an 81 to move into 12th place. Sophomore Mollie Boney was 16th with an 82 and juniors Felicia Ciotola and Adrianna DiLonardo were 21st finishing with 84's.
For the YSU White Team, sophomore Amanda Brindley led the way also tying for 21st with an 84. Senior Bonnie Sherman is 31st with an 86, freshman Ann Ciavarella is 48th with a 96 and sophomore Alison Straub is 57th after shooting 108.
Volleyball
INDIANAPOLIS YSU sophomore Ebony Barbosa has been named the Horizon League offensive player of the week.
Barbosa led the Penguins to a 4-1 record last week. For the week she averaged 3.94 kill and 3.12 digs per game while hitting at a .296 clip.
At the Navy Chesapeake Challenge, Barbosa hit an impressive .407 rate while averaging 4.54 kills and 3.38 digs per game. She posted three double-doubles and pounded career-high 21 kills against Navy. Barbosa tallied 12 kills and 10 digs against LaSalle, 15 kills and 10 digs against Providence and 11 kills and a career-high 18 digs in the championship match against St. Francis (Pa.).
The Penguins host No. 23 Ohio State, Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Beeghly Center.

Ursuline reunion
YOUNGSTOWN A reunion weekend will be held for members of the undefeated 1956 Ursuline football team on Sept. 15-16.
It'll commemorate 50 years since an Ursuline football team had an unbeaten season.
The Irish went 10 games and won the 1956 City Series. Victories were over: East (20-0), Steubenville (20-14), Canton (20-7), South (32-8), Alliance (21-7), Chaney (53-6), North (28-0), Wilson (34-6), Rayen (14-6) and Warren (22-7).
The following are scheduled to attend the reunion (players): Joe Bahmer, Robert Bryarly, Tony Calucchia, Charles Cavanaugh, Hugh Connolly, Regis Coustillac, Dick DeBacco, Rich DeDomenic, Pat Haggarty, Frank Harmicar, Ed Kinney, Ed Klein, John Kopp, Ted Krispinsky, Paul Mahar, Don Malatok, Dan McCormick, Marty Pallante, Jim Pannozzo, Jim Pepperney, Ed Ramm, Rick Varley, Dave Veitz, Ron White, Tom Winsen and Richard Worrellia; (coaches): Tom Carey, Lou Chiaro, Don McCloud, Dick Rezek and Ed Kinney. Francis Buckley was team manager and Linda Dell'Arco was a cheerleader.
PAC honors Parker
WEXFORD, Pa. The Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) named Bethany senior wide receiver T.J. Parker (Fitch) as its offensive player of the week.
Parker earned his first conference award after he scored three touchdowns in Bethany's 42-7 romp over Hiram. Parker has 15 career touchdown receptions and is tied for second all-time at the school, just two behind Brian Dickman, who holds the record with 17 from 1991-94.
In the Hiram game, Parker finished with seven receptions for 86 yards to move into fourth place all-time at Bethany in career receiving yards. He now has 1,600 yards and stands 360 away from surpassing Denny Williams (1977-80) for the all-time mark. Parker is also fourth in all-time receptions with 114 and needs 32 more to move ahead of Zack Merz (2001-04) for the all-time record.

YOUNGSTOWN The Youngstown Baseball Oldtimers Association will hold a monthly meeting Thursday at Kramer Field on Bears Den Road at 2:30 p.m.
