Michael B. (Slavkosky) Slavens, 91

STRUTHERS – There will be services at 9:30 a.m. Monday at the Clemente Funeral Home in Struthers and a Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Luke Church in Boardman for Michael B. (Slavkosky) Slavens, 91, who passed away at home.
Michael was born June 5, 1916 in Struthers, a son of Michael and Helen Slavkosky, and was a lifelong area resident.
He graduated from Struthers High School in 1935. He was a U.S. Army WWII veteran. He worked at the Youngstown Sheet & Tube Co. for 43 years as an upsetter in the seamless mill at the Campbell Works. He also received the pro of the month at the mill twice.
Michael was a member of the St. Nicholas Church in Struthers. He played football and basketball in high school. He was an avid golfer and was on the Sheet & Tube golf league. He once scored a hole-in-one at the Dogwood golf course. He enjoyed his garden and wood working at home.
Michael is survived by his wife, the former Caroline A. Lysz, whom he married Sept. 25, 1948; two sons, Michael L. Slavens of Struthers and Ron (Debbie) Slavens of Boardman; a daughter, Elaine (Paul) Toth of Howland; a brother, Charles Slavens of Salem; and four grandchildren, Amanda Toth and Michael Jay, Christina, and Mark Slavens.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Joseph Slavens; and a sister, Helen Olenick.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with a Bible Vigil at 7 p.m.
