Ray E. Dawson, 70
COLUMBIANA Ray E. Dawson, 70, of 130 Hawkins Lane, passed away on Saturday, at Brunswick Hospital in Georgia.
Mr. Dawson was born Feb. 18, 1938, in Shippingport, Pa., a son of the late Frank and Mary Shamp Dawson, and lived in Ohio most of his adult life.
Mr. Dawson was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and was the assistant Scout Master of Troup 31 from 1973 to 1980 in Niles. He retired from Delphi Packard in December of 2006 after 36 years of service as an industrial electrician. He was a member of the Jerusalem Lutheran Church in Columbiana.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Laurie Dawson Feniello, formerly of Pittsburgh; and a stepdaughter, Roxanne Gibson formerly of Rootstown.
Mr. Dawson is survived by his loving family; his wife, Carol; a daughter, Gina Dawson of Alpharetta, Ga.; two sons, Ray Dawson Jr. of Oviedo, Fla. and Justin Dawson of Newport News, Va.; a stepdaughter, Cassandra (Rob) Hanna; and two grandchildren, Brant and Brittney Hanna, all of Ravenna; a brother, Frank (Yoko) Dawson of Niles; three sisters, Elsie Standley and Mabel Fink, both of Beaver, Pa. and Hazel Johnson of Jackson Center, Pa.; as well as, many loving nephews and nieces.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, 2008, at the Jerusalem Lutheran Church, 415 S. Main St. in Columbiana, with Reverend David H. Conrad officiating. The honor guard from Benjamin Firestone Post No. 290 American Legion will accord military honors.
Burial will be at the Crown Hill Burial Park in Vienna.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday at the Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home, 28 North Main St. in Columbiana and from noon to 1 p.m. on Saturday at the church.
