Dr. Gordon C. Hopes
YOUNGSTOWN There will be services at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 9, at the First Presbyterian Church in Youngstown for Dr. Gordon C. Hopes, known as Doc, formerly of Hubbard, who passed away Monday, Oct. 5, at Park Vista Retirement Center.
He was born April 28, 1923 in Youngstown, a son of Charles J. and Laura J. Coe Hopes and was a lifelong area resident.
He was a 1942 graduate of Hubbard High School and a 1950 graduate of Ohio State Dentistry School. He practiced dentistry and had his own practice in Hubbard for 47 years, retiring in 1997.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Youngstown, a 50-year member of Corydon Palmer Dental Society, and a former member of Hubbard Kiwanis Club.
He was an accomplished singer and sang in the church choir of the Immanual Baptist Church for many years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during World War II in the 324th Infantry.
He married his childhood sweetheart, the former Marjorie E. Knuth, on July 26, 1945. She passed away Feb. 11, 2003.
He is survived by his daughters, Karen Lee (Michael) Razo of Canfield, Judith Ann (Gary) Smith of Struthers and Barbara Jean (Stephen) McCumber of Cortland; six grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Thomas Hopes; and a sister, Evelyn Hopes.
There will be calling hours Thursday, Oct. 8, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Stewart-Kyle Funeral Home.
Burial will be at Hubbard Union Cemetery.
