Thomas Jay Mokosh, 58
WARREN Thomas Jay Mokosh, 58, of 331 Golf Drive NE, passed away peacefully at 10 p.m. Friday at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
He was born April 19, 1947 in Wheeling, W.Va., to Steve and Zelda (Soupis) Mokosh.
After graduating from Moundsville High School in 1965, he spent the next 20 years working at the G.C. Murphy Company, managing stores in West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan, Indiana and Virginia. He moved to Niles in 1979. Tom began working for Dunns International Auto Body in 1985, which became True 2 Form Collision Auto Repair Centers. He was the regional president of True 2 Form.
He was a member of the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Niles. He was also a member and past president of the Warren Lions Club. An active Lions Club member, he was instrumental in organizing fund raising activities, including the annual Lions Club Car Show, which raised thousands of dollars in support of Lions Club causes. He played Santa Claus for the children at Christmas for the Lions Club. Over the years, he helped numerous families with holiday assistance, ensuring needy families had Christmas dinner and presents for the children. He enjoyed his loving family and friends, collecting cars, especially Mercedes, traveling and hunting.
To know him was to be his friend and become part of his extended family. Tom will always be remembered by friends and family as being bigger than life with a heart and a laugh to match.
He is survived by his wife, Deborah R. Debbie (DeMara) Mokosh, whom he married Aug. 31, 1968; a daughter, Trisha Squires of Royal Oak, Mich.; a son, Thomas Mokosh Jr. of North Port, Fla.; and a sister, Judy (Alan) Lewandosky of Ellington, Conn.
Calling hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home.
There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, preceded by a 9 a.m. service at the funeral home, with Rev. John Mulqueen as celebrant.
Burial will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Riverview Cemetery in Moundsville, W.Va.
