LeRoy O. Meredith, 92
YOUNGSTOWN - LeRoy O. Meredith, 92, of Sharlene Dr., passed away Friday afternoon, Jan. 5, 2007, at Meridian Arms Care Center. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Mr. Meredith was born April 30, 1914 in Seattle, Wash., a son of the late Albert and Kathryn DePue Meredith, and came to New Springfield in 1924 before moving to Youngstown, where he lived for the remainder of his life.
He attended Chaney High School and was WWII U.S. Navy veteran, where he served aboard an aircraft carrier in the South Pacific.
LeRoy worked for his father at the family-owned gas station, was a manager for United Parcel Delivery, and was a fireman for the Youngstown Fire Department for 31 years, retiring in 1976. He also worked for K.I.T. Builders and the ONeill Tarpaulin Company.
He was an active member of Concordia Lutheran Church, where he attended Sunday school, and he was a member of the Lutheran Laymens League, the Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, and the United Lutheran Society. Mr. Meredith also was a member of the Police and Fire Retirees, Chapter 10, the Catholic War Veterans John J. Buckely Post No. 1292, and the St. Georges Croatian Lodge No. 66.
He leaves his wife of nearly 70 years, Anne K. Pagac Meredith, whom he married June 5, 1937; two sons, LeRoy P. (Betty Ann) Meredith of Cottonwood, Ariz., and Dennis W. (Rita) Meredith of Azle, Texas; a daughter, Carole A. (John) Zimmerman of Naples, Fla.; five grandchildren, Ben Meredith, Cynthia Bynum, Eric Meredith, Meredith Zimmerman and John Zimmerman; and three great-grandchildren, Madison, Devon, and Tanner.
A brother, George Marlowe Meredith, is deceased.
Family and friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Road, Youngstown, and on Tuesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at Concordia Lutheran Church.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at the church.
Interment will follow at Belmont Park Cemetery.
