Josephine “Josie” A. Novak, 86

BOARDMAN – Services will be Saturday, Jan. 13, at 11:30 a.m. at Thompson Funeral Home, 4221 Market St. in Boardman and at noon at St. Matthias Church for Josephine A. Novak, 66, who died Wednesday at her residence.
Josephine, known as “Josie,” was born May 11, 1940 in Youngstown, a daughter of the late Joseph and Stella Baron Badowski.
She graduated from Wilson High School and worked in the bakery for Woolworth’s in downtown Youngstown and had also worked in the cafeteria at Forum Health Northside Medical Center.
She enjoyed crocheting, baking and hosting birthday parties for her neighbors and friends, doing puzzles and coloring with her grandchildren and listening to her grandchildren’s stories. She was a very giving person and would do anything to help someone.
Her husband, Stephen “Rich” Novak, whom she married April 4, 1959 died Nov. 30, 1993.
She leaves her daughter, Jean (Michael) Shives of Boardman; two grandchildren, Christopher and Michelle Shives; her sister, Lucille Kish of Boardman; two aunts, Mary Soroka of Youngstown and Anna Morris of Xenia; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Stephen J. Novak.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
