Albert J. Habegger, 80
NORTH JACKSON- Albert J. Habegger, 80, passed away at 1:40 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 11, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center.
Albert was born July 30, 1926 in Austintown, the son of the late Christian and Martha (Kneubehl) Habegger.
Albert retired after 34 years with U.S. Steel in McDonald, where he worked as a tow motor operator.
Albert was a veteran of the United States Army having served in Japan during WWII. Albert received the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, Army of Occupation Medal Japan, Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Albert was discharged as Private First Class from the United States Army on Nov. 11, 1946.
Albert was a member of the Four Mile Run Christian Church in Austintown and enjoyed woodworking.
Albert is survived by his wife of 57 years, the former Sally Jane Thomas, whom he married on Feb. 19, 1949; three sons, George (Cheryl) of Girard, John at home and David A. (Kimberly) of Youngstown; seven grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, Albert was preceded in death by a brother, Christian Habegger.
There will be a memorial service at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 14, at Four Mile Run Christian Church, 701 Four Mile Run Road, Austintown, OH 44515.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the church.
A caring cremation has taken place under the direction of the Lane Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel.
