Louis Kennedy, Jr., 78
YOUNGSTOWN -Louis Kennedy, Jr.,78, died peacefully with his family by his side on Jan. 12 at St. Elizabeth Health Center after a short illness.
Louis was born March 21, 1928, in Campbell, a son of the late Louis (Candido) and Carmella (Mussone) Kennedy.
He graduated from Memorial High School in 1947, and enlisted in the Air Force in 1948. He served his country for 5 1/2 years during the Korean Conflict. He was in the Strategic Air Command and was part of Operation Ivy, which tested the first hydrogen bomb at Eniwetok.
He worked in the payroll department of the Youngstown Sheet & Tube LTV for 25 years, retiring in 1982. Prior to that time, he worked as a buyer and department manager at Stambaugh-Thompson Co.
Louis was a member of the VFW Post No. 7538. He was a very kind and happy person who loved to go on cruises with his family. He was an avid collector.
He is survived by his wife, Tula Santulis, whom he married Dec. 1, 1957; and five children, Louis (Leah Kish) Kennedy, III, and John F. (Sue) Kennedy both of Youngstown; and Anita (George) Long of Cranberry Twp., Pa., Christina Russo and Carmel K. (Brad) Steinberg both of Boardman; his sister, Rose Stosic of Fla.; five grandchildren, Jessica, Angela and Thomas Long, Athena Russo and Jordan Steinberg.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Gene and Tony; and his sisters, Theresa Benvenuto, Mary Fitch and Ruth O'Brien.
Visitation will be Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Kirila Funeral Home in Struthers, where a prayer service will be held at 8 p.m.
There will also be visitation from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Monday at St. John Greek Orthodox Church, 4955 Glenwood Ave. in Youngstown, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m.
