Cortelle Keefer, 81
LIBERTY TWP. Cortelle Keefer, 81, died Saturday, Jan.13 at St. Elizabeth Health Center surrounded by her loving family. She had been a resident of Liberty Township all her life.
She was the daughter of Jonathan and Maude Charles Keefer, both lifetime residents of Liberty Township.
Cortelle was born June 12, 1925 in Youngstown. She was a 1943 graduate of Liberty High School and a graduate of Case Western Reserve University. She worked briefly as a secretary at the Ohio Leather in Girard. After receiving her nursing degree, she served as Liberty School Nurse for seven years, along with community nursing duties when she was needed.
She worked at St. Elizabeth and Northside Youngstown hospitals before retiring from Hillside Rehabilitation Hospital in Howland Twp.
She volunteered as a nurse for the first Liberty Township disaster committee, and served on the Altar Guild for many years at Church Hill United Methodist Church, of which she had been a lifetime member.
Cortelle had been devoted to her family all her life. She leaves a sister, Lorraine Sauce of Liberty Township; two nieces, Nora (Larry) Slimmer and Peggy (Jack) Whitmore of Brookfield; two loving great-nieces, Jenny (Doug) Hemme of Pittsburgh and Jill (Scott) Matthews of Sewickly, Pa.; and a great-nephew, John (Lori) Slimmer of Ashtabula.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 16 at 2 p.m. at the Blackstone Funeral Home in Girard, where visitation will be today from 6 to 8 p.m.
Interment will take place in Belmont Park Cemetery.
