Charlotte R. Gardner, 73

VIENNA TOWNSHIP – Charlotte R. Gardner, 73, died Friday at the Shepherd of the Valley in Niles.
Mrs. Gardner was born in Youngstown March 19, 1933, a daughter of Dr. Thomas F. and Rose M. (Kovacs) Kupensky.
A 1951 graduate of Vienna High School, Charlotte furthered her education by obtaining her bachelor’s degree in Education in 1955 from Youngstown College.
Mrs. Gardner retired from the Joseph Badger Board of Education in 1993 after 40 years as a teacher. She had previously taught with the Girard, Liberty and Fowler School Districts. In addition, she taught in Prince Georges County, Md., and Forest Park School District, where she was a state representative for the Illinois State Education Association.
She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Vienna, where she was a member of the Woman’s Guild; Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority; Ohio Educational Association; Retired State Teachers Association; National Educational Association; Vienna Alumni Association, where she was the former president; and the Hubbard Business Woman’s Association. In her spare time, she enjoyed shopping, dining, and socializing.
Survivors include her son, Thomas Gardner and wife Barbara of Girard; her daughter, Kathleen DiTommaso and husband Leonard of Vienna; her grandchildren, Brandon and Leiloni Gardner, William Cornfield, and Marco and Dominic DiTommaso; and her niece, Brenda Murdock of Columbus.
She was preceded in death by her parents; by her husband, Leroy C. Gardner, whom she married in 1958, and who died in 1970; and by her brother, Thomas J. Kupensky.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, with Rev. Frank Zanni, Pastor, officiating.
Calling hours will be Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Madasz Funeral Chapel in Brookfield.
A Private Burial will take place.
