John P. “Jake” Donchess

YOUNGSTOWN - There will be funeral services Monday at 9:30 a.m. at the Vaschak-Kirila Funeral Home and at 10 a.m. at St. Christine Church for John P. “Jake” Donchess, who passed away Friday morning at the Hospice House.
John P. “Jake” Donchess was born Jan. 22, 1923 in Youngstown, the son of Joseph and Rose Ponker Donchess.
He was a graduate of The Rayen School and a 1951 graduate of Youngstown College. He was also a U.S. Army Air Force Veteran.
John was a certified public accountant, having worked for the Ohio Department of Taxation, and later was self-employed.
He was a member of St. Christine Church, Croatian Home Lodge No. 66, and S.N.P.J.
John is survived by his wife, Ethel Hovanec Donchess, whom he married in 1947; a son, John (Jody) Donchess of Poland; two daughters, Debra (John) Minkley of Atlanta, and Janice Donchess of Salt Lake City; a brother, Atty. Joseph Donchess of Struthers; and four grand-children, Jeff and Dana Donchess, and Jacob and Beau Minkley.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Mary Strojny and Katherine Martin.
Friends may call today from 2 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.
