Mary Alice Mae-Mae Harris, 72
YOUNGSTOWN There will be funeral services at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Union Baptist Church for Mary Alice Mae-Mae Harris, 72.
At 2 p.m. Nov. 26, our world lost a precious gift, Mary Alice Mae-Mae Harris. The daughter and eighth child out of fourteen children from Nelly and Avery Wilson, Mary passed away a few days before her 73rd birthday.
Mary graduated from Chaney High School in 1954, where she was reportedly at the top of her class academically. Mae-Mae went on to work for the Woolworth Dept. Store in downtown Youngstown, where she developed her culinary skills, which she used the rest of her life for the pleasure of others. One thing she was known for was her ability to cook; for she didnt necessarily enjoy the act of cooking, but she reveled in the joy people got from her meals. Later, Mae-Mae earned the title of Insurance lady from her hard and compassionate work as an insurance agent for the Supreme Life Insurance Company.
Mary is survived by her sisters, Edith Driscall, Doris Wilson, and Barbara Taylor; her brothers, Paul and Larry Wilson; her second husband, David C. Harris of Maryland; three children, Clyde Bert Williams, Mary Alice Dotie, and Angela Anjelique Harris; eight grandchildren, Michael De Wayne Hills Jr., Julian DVaughn Hills, Eillan James Jennings, Aleece DeShaunae Dotie, Alliyah JaMeese Williams, Mariam DeShaun Dotie, and Kavon and Kavel Birchfield; three great-grandchildren, Stephon, Zaire, and Zamari Hills; her goddaughter, Silvia Randolph; and her extended family and friends.
Taking her passion for education with them, her children earned bachelors, masters, and associates degrees, various academic scholarships, certificates, and awards.
Besides joining her mother and father in Heaven, Mary joins her sisters, Lauranell Johnson Frazier, Mildred Geraldine Wilson, Maude Cam Wilson, and Carolyn Rose (Chibby) Ballard; her brothers, John Henry Johnson, Fredrick Wilson, Avery Lancaster Wilson Jr., and James Leroy Wilson; her first husband, Clyde Bert Williams Sr.; and her best friend, Florence Johnson, who passed away Nov. 21, 2007.
Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church.
Arrangements are being handled by the F.D. Mason Memorial Funeral Home.
