John J. Cossack Sr., 91

YOUNGSTOWN – John J. Cossack Sr., 91, formerly of Eddie Street, passed away early Tuesday morning, Aug. 12, 2008, at Omni Manor Health Care Center.
John was born July 31, 1917 in Patterson, N.J., a son of the late Michael and Mary Cossack, and came to this area as a young child.
He was a graduate of East High School and attended Youngstown College for two years.
He worked for 25 years for Wean United, retiring in 1978 as a draftsman, and was a member of St. Casimir Church. Mr. Cossack was also a member of the men’s club at the church, the St. Casimir Seniors, where he was a past president, and was a member of the parish council.
John was a charter member of the YSU Penguin Club, was a member of the Ursuline High School Boosters for over 50 years, and was a fourth degree knight in Knights of Columbus Council No. 274.
Mr. Cossack was an avid sports fan of the Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Indians, and enjoyed bowling.
He leaves a brother, Michael Cossack of Struthers; a sister, Olga Atlanta of Youngstown; four grandchildren, Benny Franklin (fiancé Brenda Crum), Johanna Franklin, Jamiann Yurcisin, and Samara Franklin; five great-grandchildren; and three stepsons, William B. Sokol, C. Richard Sokol, and John A. Sokol.
John’s first wife, Anna M. Swenden Cossack, passed away May 13, 1984. His second wife, Rose A. Sokol Cossack, whom he married in May of 1985, passed away Sept. 6, 2007.
A son, John Cossack Jr.; a daughter, Barbara Franklin; three sisters, Leda Hartwell, Lyda McGrail, and Bertha Yashnik; and a granddaughter, Evette Franklin, are also deceased.
Family and friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 15, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Road, Youngstown.
Funeral services will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home, and continue at 9:30 a.m. at St. Casimir Church in Youngstown.
Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
