Samuel B. Lamanna Jr., 92
AUBURN, ALA. Samuel B. Lamanna Jr., 92, formerly of Boardman, passed away Friday, Feb. 27, 2009, at Bethany House EAMC Hospice in Auburn.
He was born May 21, 1916 in Youngstown, a son of the late Samuel B. Lamanna and the late Antoinette (Maida) Lamanna.
Mr. Lamanna was preceded in death in 1996 by Philomena (Pennel) Lamanna, to whom he was married for almost 50 years; his son, Richard, who passed away in 2006; two brothers, Carmen and John; and two sisters, Elsie Pennel and Eda Perry.
He is survived by Rose (Pennline) Lamanna, whom he married in 1998. Survivors include Mr. Lamannas daughter, Mary Ellen Thomson of Auburn and her husband, David; Mr. Lamannas five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and his sister, Nell DiSalvo of Boardman. He is also survived by Rose (Pennline) Lamannas son, Stephen (Mary Ellen) Pennline and daughter, Arlene (Bob) Hinchcliffe and their children and grandchildren.
He was an active member of St. Luke Catholic Church and the Holy Name Society, acting as a greeter and volunteering his time wherever needed. He made many lifelong friends through the church.
He was a World War II Army veteran and was awarded the Bronze Star.
He worked for United Engineering for 39 years before retiring in 1977, and worked for Joe Silvestri Construction Company until 2000. He loved his family and especially enjoyed the time he was able to spend around his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Calling hours will be Sunday, March 8, 2009, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Fabrizio Funeral Home, 619 East Indianola Ave. in Youngstown.
His services will be held at St. Luke Church at 10 a.m. Monday, March 9, 2009.
