Mary Gnip, 79
YOUNGSTOWN Mary Gnip, 79, passed away early Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 5, 2009, at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown after suffering a sudden heart attack.
Mary was born July 25, 1930 in Youngstown, a daughter of the late Wasil and Paraska Sawczuk Soroka, and was a lifelong area resident.
She was a 1948 graduate of East High School, was a homemaker, and worked as a clerk for Revco Drugs for 15 years, retiring in 1992 from the Boardman store.
Mrs. Gnip was proud of her Ukrainian heritage and was a member of Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Byzantine Church in Youngstown. She was a pyrohy worker, a member of the churchs St. Anne Guild, the Senior Sodality, and was a volunteer for many church projects.
Mary leaves her husband of 51 years, John Gnip, whom she married Nov. 10, 1957; five daughters, Karen (Jeff) Fullerman of Twinsburg, Joyce Gnip of Youngstown, Janice Gnip of Youngstown, Susan (Ron) Strom of Boardman and Patricia (Bill) Thompson of Boardman; six grandchildren, Greg (Aliesha) Fullerman, Stephanie Strom, Lindsay and Lauren Fullerman, Stephen Strom and Matthew Thompson; and two brothers, John Soroka of Poland and Steve Soroka of Vienna.
Mary enjoyed her family immensely, and adored her grandchildren, who were the love of her life. She will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Two brothers, Peter and Theodore Soroka are deceased.
Family and friends may call from noon to 2 p.m., today, Aug. 8, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Road in Youngstown, where funeral services will take place at 2 p.m.
Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Youngstown.
