Patsy Pollifrone, 77
BOARDMAN There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held on Aug. 19, 2009 at 11 a.m. at St. Charles Church in Boardman with the Rev. Philip Rogers officiating for Patsy Pollifrone, 77, who passed away on Saturday afternoon, Aug. 15, 2009, with his loving family by his side after an extended illness.
Patsy will always be remembered and loved by his family and friends.
He was born Oct. 5, 1931 in Youngstown, the son of James and Margaret (Malie) Pollifrone and was a lifelong area resident.
Patsy was a 1950 graduate of The Rayen School, received his bachelors degree in Biology from Youngstown College, where he played football and then received his masters degree from Kent State University.
He was a lifetime educator in the area, where he began his teaching career at Cardinal Mooney High School and was inaugural football coach, and then taught at Canfield High School, The Rayen School, Ursuline High School, Kent State University and finished his career at Lordstown High School while also being the Athletic Director and the president of the Teachers Union. He coached at the other high schools football, track and cross country.
Patsy was a member of St. Charles Church, the Penguins Club, and the Ohio Federation of Teachers.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, where he obtained the rank of 1st Lieutenant.
Patsy loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, and would drive anywhere to watch their sporting events. He also enjoyed watching Sunday football and rooting on the Pittsburgh Steelers.
He leaves behind to hold onto his precious memories, his beloved wife of over 53 years, the former Mary Bellino, whom he married on Sept. 24, 1955; five children, Dr. James (Pamela) Pollifrone of Arlington, Texas, Patrick (Nita) Pollifrone of Salem, Va., Dr. David (Lynne) Pollifrone of Fort Wayne, Ind., Linda (Scott) Knox of Boardman and Michael (Tracey) Pollifrone of Howland; 15 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and two sisters, Jennie Greco of Orange, Calif. and Victoria Billett of Florida.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, John Pollifrone and a sister, Tillie Cizmar.
Friends may call on Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2009, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St. in Boardman, and again on Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2009, from 10 to 10:50 a.m. at St. Charles Church, Boardman.
Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery with full military honors provided by the Trumbull County American Legion.
