William D. Smith, 78
AUSTINTOWN William D. Smith, 78, of 2487 Bainbridge St., passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2009, at the Forum Health Northside Medical Center in Youngstown from complications of pneumonia.
Mr. Smith was born on Aug. 24, 1931 in Youngstown, the son of the late William E. and Elsie (Brennan) Smith.
William was a 1949 Canfield High School graduate, and attended N.W. Missouri State University. He worked as a manager at Youngstown Sheet and Tube, as an assembler for Lordstown Assembly Plant and he later owned and operated Bills Tri County Driving School in Canfield, from where he retired in 1980. Mr. Smith served in the Korean Conflict in the U.S. Air force. He was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church of Austintown.
Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Darlene K. (Beck) Smith, whom he married on Dec. 30, 1961. He is also survived by one daughter, Lynn (Courtney) Dahler of Austintown; one son, David W. Smith of Austintown; two sisters, Charlotte (Rich) Confer of Poland and Sandy (Bud) Frazier of Summerfield, Fla.; four brothers, Jack (Norma) Smith of Canfield, Tom (Genevieve) Smith of Howland, Richard (Sue) Smith of Chicago and Frank (Dee) Smith of Spring, Texas; five grandchildren, Brian Smith, Nicholas Bolash, Justin Bolash, Tiffany Smith and Kyle Smith; and four great-grandchildren, Nathan, Jordan, Jace and Jacob.
William was preceded in death by one sister, Beverly and one granddaughter, Cathy Lynn Smith.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 12, 2009, at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Austintown with the Rev. Gregory Fedor officiating.
Burial will be at Green Haven Memorial Gardens.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 11, 2009, and from 10 to 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 12, 2009, at the Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home in North Lima.
