Antonios J. Antonas, 81
CAMPBELL There will be services at 10 a.m. Friday at the Archangel Michael Greek Orthodox Church, for Antonios J. Antonas, 81, who passed away Tuesday morning at his residence with his family by his side..
Mr. Antonas was born Feb. 21, 1925 in Kalymnos, Greece, a son of John Anthony and Ypapanti Mastrovaselis Antonas, moving to the U.S. and Campbell in 1950.
He was a pipe fitter in the seamless department at Youngstown Sheet and Tube, retiring in 1983 after 32 12 years of service.
He was a member of Archangel Michael Greek Orthodox Church, where he served as cantor and choir member, the Kalymnian Society, the Lowellville Rod and Gun Club and Local Union 1418. He participated in discus as an Olympic athlete in Greece and he served his country with the Royal Greek Air Force.
Living his life to the fullest, he enjoyed hunting, Greek dancing and taking his family on vacations to Florida every year. He was an extraordinary husband, father and grandfather who gave of himself unconditionally.
Besides his wife, the love of his life, the former Evelyn G. Alesafis, whom he married July 17, 1950; he is survived by four children, Peggy and her husband Bill Sagy of Charlotte, N.C., John and his wife, Lisa Antonas of Poland, Pamela and her husband Craig DiRienzo of Campbell and Georgienne and her husband Louie Douropoulos of Campbell; three brothers, Mike (Tessie), Manuel and Elias (Galatiani) Antonas, all of Campbell; a sister, Beth (Nick) Christopoulos of Athens, Greece; and 12 grandchildren, David, Billy and Alexa Sagy, Tony, Michael and Alisse Antonas, Craig Leo and Ava DiRienzo and Erika, Bobby and Pamie Miller and Antonios Douropoulos.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Wasko Funeral Home, where a Trisagion will be held at 7 p.m., and a half hour prior to the service in church on Friday.
