Anthony F. Balestrino, 89
HUBBARD Anthony F. Balestrino, 89, died Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2006, in Lafayette, Colo.
He was born on July 4, 1917, in Hubbard, a son of Francesco and Ellen Adessa Balestrino and lived in the area until moving to Florida for six years after retirement. He then moved to Conneaut for 20 years returning to Hubbard in 2005.
Mr. Balestrino was a welder for GATX in Masury for 40 years, retiring in 1979. He was a member of St. Patrick Church in Hubbard, a 1936 graduate of Hubbard High School and attended Youngstown State University for two years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII, serving as a forward scout and translator under General George S. Patton.
Anthony was a great husband and wonderful father and enjoyed fishing, sailing and winemaking. He was an avid gardener and coffee lover.
He leaves his wife, the former Virginia DePaul, whom he married on Sept. 8, 1948; three sons, Frank (Earlene) Balestrino of Massillon, Bill (Laura) Balestrino of Commerce Township, Mich., and Larry (Suzanne) Balestrino of Poland; three daughters, Marcia (Chuck) Emery of Phoenix, Jane (Eric) Hagberg of Brookfield and Lisa (Danny) Morris of Louisville, Colo.; a brother, Tom Balestrino of Hubbard; a sister, Cil Mihalik of Hubbard; 17 grandchildren, Andrew, Canyon, Cooper, David, Hannah, Kaileen, Lauren, Logan, Michael, Michelle, Neal, Nicole, Rachel, Reggie, Spencer, Tara and Victoria; and two great-grandchildren, Mariah and Shelby.
His parents and two brothers preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 9:15 a.m. at the Kelley-Robb Funeral Home and at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick Church in Hubbard.
Friends and family may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
