John Anthony Battafarano, 89

CANFIELD – There will be services at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Anthony Church in Youngstown for John Anthony Battafarano, 89, who passed away Thursday afternoon at Forum Northside Medical Center.
John was born Aug. 10, 1917, in Youngstown the son of Philip and Antoinette Battafarano.
A proud WWII Army veteran, he served in the Army Corps of Engineers during WWII, serving in France, Belgium and Italy and in the D-Day invasion on Omaha Beach.
Mr. Battafarano worked as a self-employed bricklayer before retiring in 1984. He was lifelong member of St. Anthony Church and was a member of the Italian American War Veterans.
His wife the former Marie Esther Liguore whom he married April 19, 1947, died Dec. 15, 2006.
He is survived by his two sons, Philip (Renee) Battafarano of Boardman and Jack Battafarano of Canfield; his granddaughter, Danielle Battafarano of Poland; and his sister, Phyllis Battafarano, and a brother, James (Anita) Battafarano, both of Liberty.
Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Sam, Albert, Joseph and Nicholas Battafarano.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Boardman-Canfield Chapel, and from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Monday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in John Battafarano’s name to help abused children at the Mahoning County CASA Program at 300 E. Scott Street, Youngstown, OH 44505.
