Elizabeth Hughey, 86

YOUNGSTOWN – Funeral services will be Wednesday at 12 p.m. at the Tabernacle Baptist Church for Mrs. Elizabeth Hughey, 86, who departed this life Thursday at Forum Health Northside Medical Center.
Mrs. Hughey was born Aug. 27, 1920 in Talbottom, Ga., a daughter of Solomon and Nellie Huff Giddens, and came to the Valley many years ago.
Mrs. Hughey was formerly employed as a secretary for the Mammoth Life Insurance Co.; Tabernacle Baptist Church and was a clerk-typist for the Youngstown Main Library. She was also an aide for her husband, Councilman Richard Hughey, and was appointed to fill his term upon his death in 1986. She was the first woman to serve on City Council in the City of Youngstown.
She was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church, where she served in the Willing Workers’ Ministry. She was a devoted family caregiver, and she loved to travel.
She leaves to cherish her memory a loving and devoted daughter, Wylene (Luther) Counts of Austintown; a brother, Edgar Giddens of Youngstown; two grandchildren, Terri (Curtis) Robinson of Rootstown, and Shari Luckey of Youngstown; three great-grandchildren, Summer W. Luckey of Youngstown, Morgan E. and Sydne' D. Robinson of Rootstown, OH; two special brothers- in-law, James (Eleanor) Hughey and Otto (Ethel) Hughey, both of Youngstown; and a host of loving nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, William L. Giddens.
The family will receive friends Wednesday one hour prior to services at the church.
Interment will be in Tod Homestead Cemetery.
Services have been entrusted to J.E. Washington Funeral Services Inc.
