Robert E. Bob Hockenberry, 73
AUSTINTOWN Funeral services will be held at noon on Saturday at the Lane Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel for Robert E. Bob Hockenberry, 73, who died Wednesday afternoon.
Bob was born Aug. 2, 1936 in Bellefonte, Pa., the son of Robert C. and Margaret (Schreffler) Hockenberry and came to Austintown in 1974.
Bob retired as owner operator of Riverside Supermarket in Warren in 1995; always wanting to be active he was a self-employed financial consultant with Prudential Insurance until the time of his death. Bob graduated from Bellefonte High School then spent four years in the U.S. Air Force. After being discharged from the Air Force, he attended Penn State University for two years.
Bob was an eternal optimist who was always on the go and active. He loved to do gardening and read.
He will be sadly missed by his wife of 53 years, Janet (Small), whom he married April 3, 1956; and his four sons and their wives, Gregory and Jill of Wooster, Scott and Elizabeth of Boardman, Robert and Diane of Boardman and Jeffrey and Cindy of Champion. He will also be missed by his sisters, Gloria Miller of Dover, Md., Cathy Lutz of Bellefonte and Helen Kelsea of New Albany, Ind.; brothers, James of Mifflintown, Pa. and Gary of Willis, Texas; and his grandchildren, Arlo Brookhart, Richard Boyles, Carolyn Hockenberry, Jude Hockenberry and Lily Hockenberry.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ronald; and sister, Carol.
Family and friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
The family requests that memorial contributions take the form of donations to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
