Albert Paolone, Sr., 85
BOARDMAN - Albert Paolone, Sr., 85, passed away Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 16, 2009, at St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center following an extended illness.
Albert was born Feb. 2, 1924 in Greensburg, Pa., a son of the late Arsenio and Maria Luigia Columbo Paolone, and came to this area with his family as a child.
Al attended East High School before joining the U.S. Navy during WWII. He participated in the landing at Normandy Beach on D-Day, driving a landing craft to the beach.
After the war, he worked for U.S. Steel, Ohio Works, co-owned A&A Television Repair with his brother Angelo, and was a distributor for Wheeler Potato Chips.
Al was a member of St. Christine Church in Youngstown, was a life member of Amvets Post No. 44, and served as the posts commander in 1963-64. He enjoyed tinkering with electronics, cars, lawn mowers, and loved being an all-around handyman.
Mr. Paolone leaves four children, Dee (John) Deem of Struthers, Albert Paolone Jr. of Coitsville, Linda Paolone of Youngstown and Diane (Jack) Conrad of Austintown; a sister, Mary Ann Cerimele of Austintown; 10 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
Al will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Dannie, Angelo, Joseph and Ernest Paolone; two sisters, Violet Sheridan and Angela Paolone; and a grandson, Nicholas Paolone.
Family and friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today, Friday, Dec. 18, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Road in Youngstown, where the Amvets will hold a service at 7:30 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
Interment with military honors will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Youngstown.
