Tommie Lee Carnathan Sr.
YOUNGSTOWN Tommie Lee Carnathan Sr. was born on April 4, 1923 in Butler, Ala.
Tommie served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1945.
On May 25, 1944, he married the love of his life, Florence Bryant of Monroeville, Ala.
Tommie worked for 33 years at Republic Steel and retired in 1979.
He was a member of the New Bethal Baptist Church, and a member of the local Masonic Lodge. He departed this life on Dec. 21, 2009.
Tommie leaves to cherish his memories and to carry on his legacy a devoted wife of 65 years, Florence (Bryant); one sister, Annie Hankerson (Johnnie) of North Carolina; two brothers, Valine Carnathan and Willie Carnathan (Octavia); two sons, Johnnie Carnathan (Deborah) of Youngstown and Benjamin McCarter (Sharon) of Virginia; three sisters, Bettye Carnathan (James), Joann Carnathan (Marcellus) and Lynda Matthews (Richard) of Maryland; 17 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, family members and friends.
Tommie was preceded in death by his mother and father, Major and Tillie Carnathan; five brothers, Floyd Carnathan, Sylvester Carnathan, Albert Carnathan (Aleen), Luke Thomas (Ann) and Leo Carnathan (Eula Mae); two sisters, Alice Carnathan and Lillie Jenkins; two sons, Tommie Carnathan Jr. and Charles Henry; and one grandchild, Charles Vincent Turner.
Services will be held on Saturday, Dec. 26, 2009, at the New Bethel Baptist Church at 10 a.m.
Friends may call one hour prior to services.
