M. June Black, 87

YOUNGSTOWN – Mrs. M. June Black, 87, departed this life Thursday, Dec. 31, 2009, at her home surrounded by loved ones.
Mrs. Black was born June 14, 1922 in Finley, a daughter of Clarence and Anna Ward Stewart, coming to the Youngstown area in 1949.
She received her undergraduate degree from Youngstown State University and her Masters Degree in school psychology from Akron University. She was a member of the Links, Inc., Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and Our Night Together and the HBC’s, both social associations.
She taught for many years in the Youngstown City School System, and later became a school psychologist with the Youngstown Board of Education.
She was a member of St. Augustines Episcopal Church, where she served in various ministries. Her legacy is filled with many charitable donations and time spent helping others. .
On April 20, 1941, M. June married her husband, Lehman E. Black Jr. She helped her husband in his endeavor of founding the Lehman E. Black Funeral Home (now known as the L.E. Black, Phillips & Holden Funeral Home Inc.) She was known for her interior decorating of the funeral home and the compassion she showed to families as she worked along side her husband until his passing July 3, 1992.
She leaves to cherish and forever hold dear her memories, three daughters, Karen Black Hovell of Memphis, Tenn., Maryanna (Horace) Stonework of Hercules, Calif. and Lynn Greene of Boardman; two sons, Dr. Lehman E. (Jane) Black III of Sacramento, Calif. and Paul E. Black of Youngstown; a brother, James Vernon Stewart of Akron; two sisters, Grace Rockhold of Chicago and Jeanette Simmons of Lima; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Friends may call today at the L.E. Black, Phillips & Holden Funeral Home from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m., during which time the Links, Inc. and the AKA’s will hold memorial services
Interment will be held in Lima on Friday with viewing from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Jones-Clark Funeral Ho me, 1302 Oakland Pkwy, Lima OH 45805.
