John Paczak, 95

YOUNGSTOWN - John Paczak, 95, passed away Sunday morning, Jan. 25, 2010, at Briarfield Manor.
John was born Sept. 5, 1914, in Farrell, Pa., a son of the late John and Mary Geletka Paczak, and came to Youngstown in the mid 1930’s.
He worked as a cook at the former Carosella’s Grill from the mid 1930’s until 1961, when he purchased the grill and continued with the business until 1969. He then worked at U.S. Steel Products in Masury for 10 years and retired in 1979.
He was a World War II United States Army Air Corps veteran, serving as a cook in Greenville, S.C., and in Alabama. He was a member of Disabled American Veterans Chapter 8 and St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church.
John had a passion for exercise and enjoyed walking and tending to his garden. He was an avid sports fan who enjoyed watching baseball and football, and most importantly, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
He leaves a daughter, Kathleen (Michael) Doherty of Cincinnati; a son, John R. (Susan) Paczak of Austintown; five grandchildren, Meg, Jenny, Andy, Beth and Ryan; six great-grandchildren, Jake, Joey, Noah, Rebekah, Chase, and Jack; two brothers, William Paczak of Warren and Stephen Paczak of Hermitage; and a sister, Marie (Woody) Woods of Van Nuys, Calif.
His wife, Helen Tranovich Paczak, whom he married July 19, 1941, died Oct. 12, 2004. A sister, Catherine Crusey, and a brother, Michael Paczak, are also deceased.
Family and friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 26 at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Road, Youngstown, where a prayer service will take place at 3:45 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home and continue at 11 a.m. at St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church.
Interment will follow at the parish cemetery.
